What is Vascular Disease?

Vascular disease is a condition that damages arteries and veins and affects blood flow throughout the body. Vascular disease also occurs when blood clots and inflammation blocks blood flow, leading to conditions that can cause stroke or heart attack.

Symptoms of Vascular Disease

  • Leg pain, especially when walking
  • Chest pain
  • Skin discoloration (blue pigmentation)
  • Leg swelling
  • Hair loss

Risk Factors for Vascular Disease

  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Smoking
  • Physical inactivity
  • Poor diet

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms or risk factors and are concerned about your vascular health, your primary care physician may refer you to a vascular specialist.

What to expect at Insight Vascular Health

Vascular health specialists are doctors and surgeons who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of vascular conditions. Through prevention, management, and surgery, vascular health specialists can help patients prevent significant damage to the body, such as stroke or heart attack.

Patients are referred to a vascular health specialist by their doctor. In order to learn more about your symptoms, diagnose your condition, and recommend a treatment plan, your vascular health specialist will complete an exam and order testing. If your condition requires surgery, your surgeon will thoroughly explain the procedure, benefits and risks, and what you can expect. We will also answer any questions you may have to ensure you are able to make an informed decision.
