Insight Chicago believes that diversity in employment, education, and the provision of healthcare is the key to positively impacting healthcare and education at large. The EM program faculty and residents are encouraged to be part of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion series, in an effort to foster the recruitment, retention, and promotion of underrepresented groups in medicine including persons of color, LGBTQIA, individuals facing hardship, and other disadvantaged groups. This series targets a multi-pronged approach:
Program diversity is crucial to training Emergency Medicine physicians, and it is imperative to healthcare in general. The IHMCC Emergency Department is comprised of a diverse body of faculty representing the spectrum of gender, ethnicity, age, religion, expertise, and background.
IHMCC supports diversity in the hope of encouraging physician satisfaction and wellbeing. The Medical Executive Committee at IHMCC has formed a Physician Diversity and Well-being Committee tasked with the goal of establishing Continuing Medical Education (CME) on recognizing the importance of diversity and wellness. In addition, the Medical Staff hosts programs on professionalism, recognition of our biases and will participate in Physician feedback symposiums. These programs provide the medical staff with tools for self-reflection and to how their colleagues perceive circumstances and situations differently.
