Welcome to the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Insight Chicago Hospital and Medical Center! 

It is our privilege to bring back critical cardiology services to the Bronzeville community.  Taking care of your heart is one of the most important things you can do to improve your overall health and well-being.  When taking care of your heart, it is important that we take a holistic view that incorporates your family history, lifestyle, and risk factors for heart disease.  Being heart healthy means eating right, regular exercise, and taking appropriate steps to manage conditions like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diabetes. 

We are excited about the range of services we are able to offer our patients, right here in the community.  Our cardiologists are experts in the management of common conditions like high cholesterol and high blood pressure (hypertension), but also are able to care for your more complex cardiac needs.  Our areas of expertise in cardiac care include the following: 

• Arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) like atrial fibrillation or supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) 
• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
• Heart failure 
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Lipid (cholesterol) management
• Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD)

In order to diagnose and manage these conditions, we are pleased to be able to offer the following imaging, testing, and procedures: 

• Echocardiography (ultrasound of the heart), including 3-D echocardiography
• Transesophageal Echocardiography (special ultrasound of the heart used to obtain better images), including 3-D TEE
• Stress testing (including stress echo, nuclear stress testing, and regular treadmill testing)
• ABIs and both arterial and venous duplex ultrasounds to evaluate for peripheral artery disease (PAD)
• Cardioversions (procedure that can help restore normal rhythm)
• Diagnostic cardiac catheterization and interventions (for example, placing stents to open up blockages)
• Peripheral artery diagnostic angiograms and interventions

Our cardiologists have a strong commitment to the community and are available to see you or your loved ones for an appointment.  Our offices are located on the first floor of the Insight Chicago Hospital and Medical Center campus.   

Dr. Bobby Diniotis, interventional cardiologist.  Dr Diniotis is passionate about delivering the best care to his patients. He is able to perform procedures that can establish the presence and extent of coronary artery disease (cardiac catheterization) and also perform interventions, like placing a stent, when appropriate.  Dr Diniotis has trained at Sinai Chicago for internal medicine, cardiology, and interventional cardiology.

Dr. Neha Patel, noninvasive cardiologist. Dr Patel is dedicated to understanding her patients’ needs and charting the best plan of care. As an expert in noninvasive cardiology, she uses diagnostic testing including EKGs, echocardiography, stress testing, and CT imaging to establish the presence of heart disease and its management.   Dr Patel has trained at Sinai Chicago for internal medicine and cardiology.  

Dr. Umar Shakur, noninvasive cardiologist.  Dr Shakur is chair of cardiology and dedicated to improving cardiac outcomes in Bronzeville and beyond.  Also an expert in noninvasive cardiology, Dr Shakur has a special interest in cardio-oncology, which involves management of cancer patients at risk for cardiotoxicity from chemo or immunotherapies.  Dr Shakur has trained at the Medical College of Wisconsin for internal medicine, a chief medicine year at Brown University, and cardiology at St Vincent Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts.
